Annie M. Austin Wade

Annie M. Austin Wade, known as “Granny Wade”, was promoted to glory on Sunday, October 17, 201o at home. She was born on August 27, 1918 to Luther and Lula Austin of Johnston Co., NC. She was married to the late Eugene T. Wade Sr., of Raleigh. Annie was a member of The Salvation Army Corps for 70 years. She was the mother of Major Sue Ann Jervis, Corps Officer of the Sanford Salvation Army. Annie has lived and traveled with her daughter for over 26 years. She has been a volunteer for the Salvation Army in North and South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Georgia in various cities with her daughter. She is known all over the Southern Territory as “Granny Wade”, a caring and loving servant of God. She has ministered to many lonely hearts in nursing homes and made a big difference in the lives of many children she worked with at summer camps and Corps outreach programs. She was always giving to those in need and wanted everyone she knew to be happy and at peace with God. Her favorite song, “If You‘re Happy and You Know It.”, will be remembered by many. If she saw a sad face, she would start singing that song and brighten up anyone that heard her. Her last wish was to be sure her body went to Chapel Hill Medical School for research. She will live on in the hearts of many. She was a true Saint and is now rejoicing with her Heavenly Father in Heaven. She is survived by three sons: Dr. Don Wade of Suffolk, VA; Eugene T. Wade, Jr. of Raleigh; and Jimmy Wade of Tempe, AZ. Three daughters: Sue Ann Jervis of Sanford; Betty Jean Hearn of New Hill, NC. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Gloria Barbour and Joyce Shaw; and one grandchild.
