What To Do With Solar Eclipse Protective Glasses After Eclipse

The next total solar eclipse will occur in August of 2026. It will be visible to Spain, Iceland, Greenland and part of Portugal.

Now that the solar eclipse is over, you may have protective glasses lying around.

The American Astronomical Society said solar eclipse glasses, are safe to reuse as long as they are not damaged, dirty, punctured, scratched, torn, wet or otherwise separated from their frame.

The eye wear can be donated to reputable organizations such as the non-profit Astronomers Without Borders, which collects and donates gently-used glasses to underserved communities and schools for future eclipses.

Companies including Eclipse Glasses USA and Warby Parker are also partnering with organizations to collect glasses to donate.

The eyewear must be compliant with ISO safety standards to be accepted.
