FBI And L.A.P.D Investigating Largest Heist In City’s History
The burglars reportedly gained access to the building and entered the vault without setting off any alarms.
The FBI and Los Angeles Police Department are investigating one of the largest cash heists in the city’s history.
The burglary occurred on the night of Easter Sunday at a storage facility in Sylmar, a suburban neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley.
The facility is where cash from businesses across the region is handled and stored. It is suspected that the thieves got away with as much as $30 million.
The burglars reportedly gained access to the building and entered the vault without setting off any alarms. Investigators believe it is a sophisticated group based on their ability to evade detection.
One area of focus for the investigation is whether the group had inside knowledge of the facility.
Details remain limited to the public as officials work to reveal more.
Previously, the largest cash heist in the city happened in 1997 when $18.9 million was stolen from another facility.
