Jack Singletary
(Died October 10, 2010) LAKE CITY: Mr. Samuel Jackson “Jack” Singletary, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 10th, 2010. Mr. Singletary was born in Williamsburg County on January 17th, 1921. He was a son of the late Samuel Jackson Singletary and the late Minnie Johnston Singletary, and was married to Margaret Strong Singletary. Mr. Singletary was a member of Lake City First Baptist Church. He retired from the Lake City Post Office as a rural mail carrier and from the United States Army Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer after thirty-eight years of service. Mr. Singletary was a veteran of World War II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the European Theater. Mr. Singletary‘s surviving family includes his wife of 68 years, Margaret S. Singletary, of the home; his three children, Patricia S. Clamp (Pennell), of Folly Beach, Samuel R. Singletary (Joyce), of Effingham; and William J. Singletary (Peggy), of Columbia; his daughter-in-law, Linda Singletary, of Lake City; his six grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; his nieces, Libby McFadden and Becky Cook, both of Lake City; and his nephew, Jimmy Rodgers, of Lake City. Mr. Singletary is preceded in death by his son, John B. Singletary; and his two sisters, Ruth Cox and Betty Rogers. Funeral services for Mr. Singletary will be held at eleven o‘clock a.m., Wednesday, October 13th, 2010, in the Lake City First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Lake City Memorial Park. The family of Mr. Singletary will receive friends immediately following the committal service in the cemetery.
