American Airlines Increases Checked-Baggage Prices

Flyers that have an airline-branded credit card, buy tickets in premium cabins or have status are largely exempt from the price increases.

American Airlines is increasing checked-baggage prices.

The carrier announced that the price of the first checked bag on most flights is going up to $40 for customers that didn’t prepay online. It will cost $35 if paid online during check in.

That marks a 33% increase from the previous $30 cost for the carrier.

American also hiked the price of a second checked bag from $40 to $45.

The changes are being enforced beginning Tuesday.

However, passengers that bought tickets prior to Tuesday will pay the previous prices.

Flyers that have an airline-branded credit card, buy tickets in premium cabins or have status are largely exempt from the price increases.
