Supreme Court To Decide Trump’s Eligibility To Serve 2nd Term In Office
Justices raised concerns about states reaching different conclusions on whether a candidate could run and several indicated that only Congress should enforce the provision at issue
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments Thursday regarding Trump’s eligibility to serve a second term in office.
The case was brought before the high court after Colorado’s Supreme Court argued the former president conducted actions of insurrection amid the January 6 Capitol attack. As a result, the justices ruled to remove the former president from the state’s ballot.
Trump challenged the ruling and it is now up to the U.S. Supreme Court to decide if the allegations are enough to prevent him from being elected again.
Opponents argued Trump should be disqualified under the constitution’s 14th amendment after he tried to “overturn the 2020 election results” which prompted people to riot.

Discussions also raised questions regarding how insurrection could be implied.
The court is expected to soon make a decision.
