Evelyn Elaine Gilfillan

Evelyn Elaine Gilfillan, 83, of Aberdeen passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on the morning of October 3, 2010. Funeral service will be held 12:00 noon Friday, October 8, 2010 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, Aberdeen with the Rev. Jonathan Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 11:00-12:00. Evelyn was born on June 19, 1927 to the late David Floyd Gower and Maude Tew Gower in Harnett County, NC. Known to her many friends as Elaine, Mrs. Gilfillan was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She never met a stranger and had a zest for life that was contagious. She will leave a tremendous void in the lives of all who knew her. Moving to Raleigh after graduating from Erwin High School in 1945, Elaine soon met and was courted by Bill Gilfillan. An MP at Camp Butner, Bill took the country girl up to Pennsylvania and the two were married in August of 1946. They returned to NC after Bill‘s retirement in 1984. Mrs. Gilfillan was a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church and a volunteer at Moore Regional Hospital in the Toymaker Dept for over 20 years. Elaine is survived by two daughters: Carol Weldy and husband John of Pinebluff, Deborah Cash and husband Mike of Cary; two grandsons: John Weldy Jr. of Los Feliz, CA; Eric Weldy and wife Meg of Aberdeen. Elaine‘s pride and joy was her granddaughter Makenzie Elaine Cash as well as her three great-grandchildren: Orion Weldy of CA, and Madelyn & Olivia Weldy of Aberdeen. Elaine is predeceased by her husband of 43 years, William John Gilfillan; a brother, William Gower and a sister, Elizabeth Lawson.
