James LaRue Phillips

11/7/1931 – 10/3/2010 LAMAR- James LaRue Phillips, age 78, went to be with the Lord Sunday, October 03, 2010. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Lamar First Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Robert Griggs. Interment will follow in Lamar Memorial Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home. Mr. Phillips was born in Horry County, son of the late Daniel Preston and Reba Floyd Phillips. He was a barber in Lamar for more than 40 years and could always be seen riding his bicycle about town. He had a great love for God, his family and the good people of Lamar and will be greatly missed by many. He was a member of Lamar First Baptist Church where he served as treasurer, Sunday School teacher and deacon. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Christine Hill Phillips, two sons: Jerry (Robin) Phillips of Lamar and Billy (Shirley) Phillips of Timmonsville; a daughter, Judy (Franklin) Fountain of Lamar; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel P. “Dan” (Myrtle) Phillips of Timmonsville. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by a son, Ruey A. Phillips and daughter, Christie P. Gray. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Lamar
