Two people are facing charges for repeated racially motivated harassment of their neighbors.
The victims contacted Horry County police to report they’ve experienced harassment and threatening behavior from the residents next door to them. The suspects were identified as Worden Butler and Alexis Hartnett.
The two are accused of using racial slurs aimed at the African American victims.
During one incident Butler and Hartnett allegedly put up a cross that faced the victims’ home and proceeded to burn it which prompted Horry County police and fire departments to respond.
After several threatening incidents the victims claimed they became concerned for their safety.
An investigation revealed enough evidence to arrest and charge both Butler and Hartnett with second-degree harassment. Hartnett faces an additional charge of third-degree assault and battery.
Both have since been released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center and are awaiting trial.
