On Wednesday, the Senate passed a stopgap bill to avoid a government shutdown.
The deadline for the shutdown was set for Friday but the new temporary bill will give lawmakers more time to come up with a full year funding plan.
The measure extends funding until January 19th for priorities including military construction, veterans’ affairs, transportation, housing and the energy department. All other funding would last until February 2nd. The proposal does not include additional aid for Israel or Ukraine.
The House passed the measure on Tuesday, the Senate’s approval means the bill will now be sent to President Biden’s desk in which he already said he will sign.
House Speaker Mike Johnson created the measure and said his plan would prevent Congress from passing a massive spending bill next month.
