House Passes Bill In Attempt To Avoid Government Shutdown
The bill would extend funding for priorities including military construction, veterans’ affairs, transportation, housing and the Energy Department, until January 19th. All other government funding wouldn't expire until February 2nd.
A progressive step has been taken in an attempt to avoid a government shutdown that’s threatening to occur on Friday.
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed a stopgap bill, putting Congress on a path to avoid a shutdown and setting the stage for a broader funding fight next year.
The bill was proposed by House Speaker Mike Johnson. It would extend funding for priorities including military construction, veterans’ affairs, transportation, housing and the Energy Department, until January 19th. All other government funding wouldn’t expire until February 2nd.
The proposal does not include additional aid for Israel or Ukraine.
The Senate will now have to approve the measure. President Biden said he plans to sign the bill if it is passed by the Senate.
