Train Derailment Resulted In Partial Road Closure And Left One Man Dead
The bridge, which extends over both lanes of the interstate, partially collapsed crushing a semi truck underneath the rubble.
A portion of Colorado’s Interstate 25 has been shutdown in both directions after a coal train derailed off a bridge and onto the roadway Sunday afternoon.
At least 10 train cars slid off the tracks and over the side of the bridge and nearby embankment, covering the ground with coal. The bridge, which extends over both lanes of the interstate, partially collapsed crushing a semi truck underneath the rubble. The driver of the truck was killed in the incident. His identity has not been publicly revealed and no other injuries were reported.
Crews are working to clear the cars and spilled coal at the derailment site near the city of Pueblo which is 45 miles south of Colorado Springs. Drivers are being directed on a detour and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
