Rivera Hoping Stewart Can Return in 2 Weeks

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers coach Ron Rivera says he’s hoping to get running back Jonathan Stewart back on the field for the team’s Nov. 3 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Stewart, who’s on the physically unable to perform list recovering from ankle surgery, completed his most extensive workout Friday. Rivera says, “We’re excited about what he did we’ll see how he reacts to everything” on Saturday.

If all goes well Rivera says Stewart could start practicing Monday. The coach says Stewart won’t play Sunday against St. Louis and likely won’t be ready to play next Thursday night at Tampa Bay given the short week.

Rivera says, “I don’t think the plan would be to expose Jonathan to that.” DeAngelo Williams will continue to get the bulk of carries with Stewart out.
