Aldi Stores Are Set To Soon Expand

Aldi is set to acquire all outstanding shares of Florida-based Southeastern Grocers Incorporated, which is the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys.

Discount grocer Aldi announced plans to expand their markets.

Aldi is set to acquire all outstanding shares of Florida-based Southeastern Grocers Incorporated, which is the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but we know that it supports Aldi’s long-term growth strategy in the U.S.. Aldi is now expected to have 2,400 stores by the end of this year, the Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarkets it is acquiring are based in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Aldi said it will convert some of the locations to its own brand and format, but some will continue to operate as normal.

The deal is unusual as Aldi is known to open its own stores, but it appears the grocer wants to experiment with more traditional supermarkets that do not follow its low-cost model.
