Canadian Wildfires Prompt Air Quality Alerts In The U.S. Again

The flames are burning from coast to coast and have burned around 10 million hectares so far this year.

The air quality in many parts of the U.S. are once again being affected by Canadian wildfires.

Air quality alerts were issued for much of Montana, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and Indiana on Sunday due to thick smoke. The air in Omaha and Cincinnati was rated as unhealthy for sensitive groups as well. The smoke is expected to flow across the Great Lakes, Midwest and Northern High Plains on Monday.

There were 900 active wildfires in Canada on Saturday. The flames are burning from coast to coast and have burned around 10 million hectares so far this year.

Those in the areas that have alerts are advised to stay inside as particulates from the smoke can irritate your eyes, nose and throat. Sensitive groups such as older adults, babies, young children, and those with heart or lung diseases are at higher risk as well.
