Bill Heading To S.C. Governor’s Desk Regarding First Responders

S.108 is now on it's way to Governor McMaster's desk to be signed before it can be put into action.

A proposed bill plans to give back to families who have lost a loved one in the line of duty.

The bill applies to situations where a full-time or part-time police officer, firefighter, or EMS worker is involved in the Pre-retirement Death Benefit Program.

If the employee dies on the job in a crash, their families could receive $75 thousand. The amount could jump to $150 thousand if they die on the job by an unlawful act of another or while responding to a call.

The South Carolina Senate proposed S.108 which was passed unanimously by the S.C. House on Wednesday.
