Biden Is Sending Additional Troops To The U.S.-Mexico Border

Their assistance is intended to free up resources at the Department of Homeland Security so U.S. customs and border protection can operate more freely in the field.

The Biden administration is sending an additional 1,500 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to prepare for the up-coming termination of Title 42.

The termination is increasing the expectation of a large migrant surge.

Currently there are nearly 2,500 National Guard troops on the border. The additional active-duty troops will serve in administrative roles but will not perform any law enforcement function.

The new military personnel will be present for 90 days and will fill critical ‘capability gaps’, such as ground-based detection and monitoring, data entry, and warehouse support.

Their assistance is intended to free up resources at the Department of Homeland Security so U.S. customs and border protection can operate more freely in the field.
