The Justice Department has reached multimillion dollar settlements in three major lawsuits.
The settlements in the lawsuits against U.S. oil and gas companies aims to reduce air pollution.
The lawsuit was filed to resolve claims that multiple key companies were using faulty equipment to manufacture and refine natural gas, as well as failed to control leaks, and released hazardous air pollution into the atmosphere.
The actions violate the ‘Clean Air Act’ standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency.
As part of the settlements, the companies will spend nearly $16 million combined on upgrades and repairs to fix the alleged issues.
