Miami Beach Struggles With Spring Break Violence

A special meeting for discussions came after two fatal shootings and excessive overcrowding has stirred concern over safety as spring breakers fill the city.

One of the most popular spring break destinations is facing struggles with violence.

On Sunday, Miami Beach issued a state of emergency and enforced a midnight curfew that was lifted as of 6a.m. Monday. The city commission voted to discard of the curfew for the upcoming weekend, but the panel did pass a measure ordering liquor stores to close at 6p.m..

Between February 27th and Sunday, Miami Beach police have reported at least 322 arrests on a variety of charges and over 70 firearms have been confiscated.

Though the curfew will not stay in effect, the city manager still has the authority to place any emergency curfew if needed.
