German officials previously announced they would only send their Leopard 2 tanks if the U.S. sent Abrams tanks.
A plan has now been finalized for the U.S. to send nearly 30 M1 Abrams tanks marking a landmark moment that comes after weeks of intense pressure on Berlin from several of its NATO allies.
Germany confirmed it will assemble two tank battalions with Leopard 2 tanks for Ukraine. The German defense minister said the Leopard tanks are set to be operational in Ukraine in around three months.
The German army currently has 320 leopard 2 tanks in possession, however, it has not been revealed just how many are ready to perform in battle.
