The Trump Organization Tax Fraud Trial Kicks Off
Trump is not personally charged but expressed the investigation as a politically motivated "witch hunt."
On October 24th, the Trump Organization will face trial in New York on allegations that it paid top executives of Trumps company, “off the books” to assist them in avoiding income taxes.
The company’s former chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, will appear as the prosecution’s main witness. The Trump Organization and Weisselberg were indicted last year after an on-going investigation into the company’s financial practices.
Weisselberg pleaded guilty to 15 felony charges. As part of his plea agreement, he will testify truthfully in the trial against the company. Trump is not personally charged in the case but expressed that the investigation is a politically motivated “witch hunt.”
The felonies that the indictment alleges the company committed include conspiracy, scheming to defraud, criminal tax fraud and falsifying business records. If convicted on all counts, the Trump Organization faces up to $1.6 million in penalties.
