R&B Singer R. Kelly Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison
R&B Singer R. Kelly received his sentence yesterday in connection to his conviction of federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges. Kelly will sit behind bars for 30 years after prosecutors asked the judge to sentence him to more than 25 years and his defense attorneys asked for 10 years or fewer. Survivors of Kelly’s abuse held hands and prayed as the judge read his sentence. Last September, a jury convicted Kelly on nine counts including one charge of racketeering and eight counts of violations of the Mann Act which is a sex trafficking law. Prosecutors accused him of using his celebrity status to ‘target girls, boys and young women for his own sexual gratification.’
