Thousands of Flights Canceled Over Father’s Day Weekend

Thousands of flights were canceled over the weekend. The most popular air travel day of the year was on Friday according to the TSA which screened nearly two and a half million people at airport security checkpoints nationwide which was the highest checkpoint volume since November 28th. A combination of rough weather, staff shortages and infrastructure challenges left some carriers struggling to keep up with the surge and nearly 9,000 flights were delayed on Friday and another 1,500 were canceled. More than 3,200 flights were canceled between Friday and Sunday according to FlightAware including more than 850 flights on Saturday and 900 on Sunday.
