Baby Formula Production at Abbott Plant Shutdown Due to Storms, Flooding

The Abbott Laboratories baby formula plant in Sturgis Michigan has been shut down once again. Production of it’s EleCare specialty formula which is hypoallergenic and recommended for babies who are allergic to cows milk was shut down after severe storms hit the area of southwestern Michigan, flooding some of the plant. The facility had recently reopened after being shut down in February due to contamination issues. In a notification to the FDA, the company said the incident will delay production and distribution of the formula for the next few weeks as the plant undergoes re-sanitization.
