Finland, Sweden Express Interest in Joining NATO
Finland and Sweden have both expressed their interest in joining NATO. On Thursday, Finnish leaders announced their intentions to join BATO and yesterday, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson announced her party’s support for the country to apply to join NATO as well. The move will have to be approved from the existing members of NATO but they are expected to be approved once the time to vote comes. Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said “Joining NATO is an act of peace so that there will never again be war in Finland in the future” and Sweden’s Andersson said “For us social Democrats, the military non-alliance policy has served us well. But our analysis shows that it will not serve us as well in the future. This is not a decision that we have taken lightly.”
