50-year-old Christa Pike was lethally injected twice, but survived.

Pike was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of classmate Colleen Slemmer, committed when she was 18.

On Wednesday the state of Tennessee attempted to execute her by lethal injection just hours after the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the execution to go forward.

After two doses of lethal injection she was reportedly still alive and snoring over 40 minutes later. Pike’s lawyers then filed an emergency motion to stay the execution to ensure she receives medical care. Her current condition is unknown.

Further details are limited at this time. Pike would have been the first woman put to death by that state of Tennessee in at least 200 years.
