A stray cat found in Horry County has tested positive for rabies.
The cat was located near Hendricks Short Cut Road and Zaccheus Lane in Conway. Two people were reportedly exposed to the animal and have been referred to their healthcare providers.
Two cats and one dog were also exposed and will be quarantined as required under the Rabies Control Act. Several other stray cats may have also been exposed.
Officials said animal control is actively assessing and managing these animals to help reduce further risk. Residents should avoid contact with stray or unfamiliar animals.
