Russell Westbrook Retiring After 18 NBA Seasons

Westbrook walks away as the undisputed Triple-Double King with 209, surpassing Oscar Robertson's once-unthinkable record of 181.

Russell Westbrook is officially retiring from the NBA.

The 37-year-old confirmed the move Wednesday, walking away after 18 seasons of basketball. It was said Westbrook was a violent throwback. He attacked the rim like it owed him something and played every possession with the urgency of a man trying to run through a brick wall.

Westbrook walks away as the undisputed Triple-Double King with 209, surpassing Oscar Robertson’s once-unthinkable record of 181. He also had nine All-Star appearances, nine All-NBA selections, two scoring titles, the 2017 MVP and a spot on the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.

Westbrook’s career stretched from Oklahoma City to Houston, Washington, both sides of L.A., Denver and finally Sacramento. Sacramento and Washington both asked to sign him again, but he said no thanks, choosing to retire on his own terms.
