President Trump Confirms Secret Plane Switch Leaving NATO Summit

The president confirmed that he secretly switched planes when he traveled back from Turkey following the NATO Summit.

President Trump has addressed a situation that occurred last month.

The president confirmed that he secretly switched planes when he traveled back from Turkey following the NATO Summit, saying a security threat prompted the maneuver.

Air Force One is the call sign of the plane the U.S. president is traveling aboard, not the name of a specific aircraft. Trump secretly switched to a military jet after appearing to board the older Air Force One.

Trump said that the “secret service and the military” made the decision, saying they wanted him to go on a different plane. He added that he guessed there was a threat out there but he did not ask too many questions.

Though he was switched, White House staff, Secret Service agents, U.S. military members and journalist remained aboard the decoy aircraft that flew to the UK. Trump later re-joined the group before continuing home.
