If you’re looking to reduce your chances of getting hit with the “parasite” that’s been going around, here are a few foods you might want to stay away from…and also a few that are probably safe to eat.
Bagged lettuce and salad kits. Some officials believe that the source of the parasite could be lettuce.
Then there’s berries. Previous outbreaks have been caused by berries, specifically raspberries…possibly because it’s hard to scrub a raspberry clean. Rinsing fruit likely isn’t enough to get rid of the parasite anyway.
Also, fresh herbs. Basil and cilantro have been culprits in past outbreaks, so it makes sense to be cautious of them for now.
Some fruits and veggies that might be okay include: bananas…whole, unpeeled melons…avocados…canned or frozen fruits and vegetables…and cooked fruits and vegetables.
