House Officially Passes Sunshine Protection ACT

The official approval came shortly after the House Rules Committee voted 6-4 to advance the bill clearing a key hurdle in the chamber.

The House of Representatives officially passed the Sunshine Protection ACT.

Lawmakers passed the measure 308-117. The bill would allow states to voluntarily observe Daylight Saving Time year-round as a growing mass of lawmakers push to extend daylight into the evening hours.

The official approval came shortly after the House Rules Committee voted 6-4 to advance the bill clearing a key hurdle in the chamber.

The measure now heads to the Senate, which passed a version of the bill back in 2022. President Trump, who has long backed the bill, is expected to sign it if it reaches his desk.

Nearly 20 states have already approved the practice, if Congress authorizes it, including South Carolina.
