Congress Passes Sweeping Housing Affordability Package
President Trump recently canceled a planned signing ceremony, stating he will not sign the legislation until Congress passes a voter ID bill.
The House passed one of the largest housing affordability packages.
The package aims to lower housing costs by tying federal grants to housing construction in an effort to create incentives for local governments to build more housing, and streamline the process for environmental reviews, among other things.
It would also restrict large investors from buying new single-family homes, an issue that Republicans in the House and Senate battled over.
On Monday, the Senate passed the package 85-5 and Wednesday, the house passed it 358-32. That follows months of back and forth between the two chambers.
