Miles has served with the department since 2006 before becoming chief in 2024. The reason for his resignation was not announced.

Major Carl Scott has been tapped to oversee the department on an interim basis and the department will continue normal operations without interruption.

The city has not announced a timeline for selecting a permanent police chief.
