Man Charged With Felony DUI Following Fatal Crash
69-year-old John Maness was taken into custody and charged with felony DUI resulting in death.
One man has been charged in connection to a fatal crash in Horry County.
The accident happened on February 17 along Highway 22 between Highway 90 and Highway 31. A Jeep struck a Suzuki Vitara that was in front of it, causing a chain reaction between several vehicles.
The Jeep was overturned in the crash and extrication operations were conducted to remove people that were trapped.
The driver of the Suzuki did not survive the injuries she sustained. She was identified as Kathryn Bhirdo. Another person was taken to a hospital. Their condition is unknown.
69-year-old John Maness was also taken to a hospital. He was the driver of the Jeep that caused the collision.
Officials noticed a liquor bottle with a broken seal inside Maness’s vehicle. He allegedly admitted that he had consumed liquor earlier that day. His BAC was at .082 while he was at the hospital.
On Sunday, Maness was taken into custody and charged with felony DUI resulting in death.
