American Airman Rescued Behind Enemy Lines
The CIA was ultimately able to pinpoint his location and relayed it to the military.
An American airman was rescued behind enemy lines Sunday after around 48 hours.
The airman’s F-15 was shot down over Iran. The injured Weapons System Officer evaded capture for more than a day in the mountains before being rescued. He had to climb a 7,000-foot ridgeline with only a pistol, a radio, and a tracking beacon.
Hundreds of special operations forces, military and intelligence personnel were involved in the search. The CIA was ultimately able to pinpoint his location and relayed it to the military in which he was recovered.
President Trump is set to host a conference at Monday on the daring rescue. The incident reportedly marked the first known U.S. aircraft shot down in the current Iran conflict.
