United Airlines Increases Checked Bag Fees

Checked bag fees will rise by $10, now standing at $50 for travelers purchasing tickets starting Friday.

United Airlines is increasing its checked bag fees.

Checked bag fees will rise by $10, now standing at $50 for travelers purchasing tickets starting Friday.

The $10 increase applies to first and second checked bags while a third checked bag fee will see a $50 increase.

The move marks the airlines first bag fee hike in two years. It comes after JetBlue made a similar announcement last month.

United Airlines did not specify whether the price increase was tied to higher jet fuel costs stemming from the recent Iran war.

The airline emphasized that eligible passengers can still check a bag for free. That includes, United Chase credit card holders, MileagePlus Premier members, active military members and travelers in premium cabins.
