S.C. Boat Tax Relief Bill Heads To Gov. McMaster’s Desk

The Senate passed the bill 39-1 and it passed through the House unanimously on Tuesday.

The South Carolina House passed a bill regarding boat property taxes.

The H.3858 bill passed in the Senate earlier this month by 39-1 and passed through the House unanimously on Tuesday.

It would provide a 50% exemption on the fair market value of any watercraft and lower the effective assessment ratio on boats from 10.5% to around 6%. The bill would also eliminate the need to title all outboard motors separately from boats.

Passing the bill cuts one of the highest boat property taxes in the country through the “one boat, one bill” system. It now heads to Gov. McMaster’s desk for signature.
