Student Taken Into Custody After Stabbing Incident At St. James High

A 16-year-old student was stabbed by a 15-year-old student.

One student was taken into custody Wednesday following a stabbing incident at St. James High School.

Around 2pm, parents were notified about the incident at the school. A second notification was sent at around 2:24pm stating that a 16-year-old student was stabbed by a 15-year-old student. The incident reportedly unfolded in a bathroom.

The victim was found alert and appeared to be ok but they were transported to a hospital to be treated. The suspected student was detained but their identity has not been released. There was no active threat on campus and all students were safe and accounted for. The suspect is facing an attempted murder charge, as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The school was placed under lockdown until officials initiated a “hold protocol” while starting a “controlled release” of students around 3:15pm. Horry County Schools is working with Horry County police to determine how the weapon was acquired and brought on campus. The incident remains under investigation. Extra law enforcement is on campus Thursday along with crisis counselors.
