Runway Improvement Project Completed At Georgetown Co. Airport

Airport officials plan to hold an official ribbon-cutting ceremony in the coming months.

A major improvement project at the Georgetown County airport is now complete.

The project involved the reconstruction of the secondary runway, 11-29, which was constructed during World War II.

Over the years, it developed surface and drainage issues and had not been resurfaced in over two decades. The deterioration created safety problems for pilots and limited operational reliability.

Now, the reconstruction will offer a safer and more consistent performance for aircraft that depend on crosswind landing and take off conditions.

The reconstruction also reportedly provides long-term financial and environmental benefits as well as support for future airport growth.
