Over 70 Dead After Mexican Drug Cartel Leader’s Death

More than 70 people have died following the death of a major Mexican drug cartel leader.
U.S. intelligence information backed Mexican armed forces in an attempt to capture Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho.” He was the infamous leader of the Jalisco New Generation cartel. That is one of the most powerful criminal organizations.
After several shootouts, several gunmen were killed and two of his bodyguards were wounded. Cervantes was hurt and did not survive the injuries he sustained.
Following his death, widespread violence broke out prompting over 250 roadblocks across 20 states. Heavily armed Mexican security forces are working to manage the chaos. Some areas have returned to normal, but many are continuing to shelter in place amid the surge of violence.
