Buddhist Monks End Months Long Walk For Peace

The monks embarked on the 2,300-mile journey from Fort Worth ending at the Lincoln Memorial in the nation's capital.

A group of Buddhist monks from Texas marked the end of their multi-month walk for peace Thursday.

On October 26, around two-dozen monks embarked on the 2,300-mile journey from Fort Worth ending at the Lincoln Memorial in the nation’s capital.

While standing in front of the memorial, the leader of the walk, thanked the monks’ community, the governors, pastors, reverends and local law enforcement officers who welcomed them along their way.

The leader said, “Love and kindness does not need power, money or a title. It is simply the choice to stop before hurting, to sharpen before speaking.” He added, “If each person takes just one second to ask, will this hurt anyone? The world would already be kinder.”

The men will board a bus in Maryland Thursday and travel back home. When they arrive back in Fort Worth, they’ll conduct a homecoming walk to their temple.
