Marion Man Indicted In Killing Of Pee Dee Paramedic

Jaremy Smith faces charges of murder, motor vehicle theft, kidnapping and more.

The man accused of killing a Pee Dee paramedic has been indicted.

In March of 2024, Marion County deputies responded to a home on Wildwood Loop on reports of a missing woman who hadn’t been seen for two days. Phonesia Machado-Fore’s body was discovered the next day at a home on Jones Drive in Nichols.

That same day, authorities learned her vehicle was involved in the fatal roadside ambush of Police Officer Justin Hare on Interstate 40 in New Mexico. Last year, Jaremy Smith pleaded guilty to the charges in Hare’s death. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Smith has now been indicted by a grand jury in Machado-Fore’s death. He faces charges of murder, motor vehicle theft, kidnapping, unlawful transport of firearms, and receiving stolen firearms. He is set to be arraigned at a federal courthouse in Florence on Feb. 26.
