A man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to bust Luigi Mangione out of custody.
Mangione is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December of 2024. He has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center since his arrest in connection to the fatal shooting and remains there as the case proceeds.
Mark Anderson of Minnesota allegedly posed as an FBI agent and claimed he had a court order authorizing an inmate’s release. The complaint did not name the inmate Anderson sought to free, but authorities believe it was Mangione.
Anderson was detained on the spot and searched, with officers discovering he was armed with a BBQ fork and a pizza cutter. He was taken into federal custody and charged with impersonating a federal officer, a felony that carries a potential sentence of up to three years in prison.
Authorities confirmed no inmate was released and the incident did not disrupt facility operations.
