17-Year-Old Suffers “Self-Inflicted” Gunshot Wound

A 17-year-old was dropped off at a relative's home along Powell Road in Andrews.

An investigation is underway following an incident in Georgetown County.

Shortly before 4pm Wednesday, a 17-year-old was dropped off at a relative’s home along Powell Road in Andrews.

The teen was suffering from a gunshot wound to his thigh and the vehicle that dropped him off was unknown.

Before the teen lost consciousness, he reportedly claimed the wound was self-inflicted. He had to be airlifted to an area trauma center for treatment.

Authorities determined the injury appeared to be a “self-inflicted negligent discharge.” Anyone with information is urged to contact Georgetown County authorities.
