Hoosiers’ quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the Heisman Trophy winner this season, led the team to a 10 to nothing score by half time.

By the fourth quarter Mendoza made a touchdown run to give the Hoosiers a 24-14 lead. Miami answered with a touchdown. Indiana was able to secure a three-point field goal.

At 27-21, the Hurricanes’ chance ended when quarterback Carson Beck threw an interception with 44 seconds left. Miami was hoping for its first championship in nearly a quarter century.
