USDA Approves McMaster’s Waiver To Exclude Products From SNAP
The products to be dismissed include candy, energy drinks, soft drinks, and sweetened beverages.
The USDA has approved S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster’s proposal to exclude unhealthy products from the list of eligible foods under the SNAP program.
The products to be dismissed include candy, energy drinks, soft drinks, and sweetened beverages.
McMaster first announced his plans to pursue the waiver back in August. He went on to issue and executive order in September directing the S.C. Department of Social Services to submit the waiver.
McMaster’s office said the waiver aligns with President Trump’s effort to improve health across the U.S. as the Palmetto State joins a growing list of states that have secured USDA approval for similar waivers.
