World-First Law Bans Children In Australia From Social Media

Children are banned from social media platforms including X, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese approved a social media ban for children 15 and younger.

The landmark legislation took effect Wednesday. Under the law, children are banned from social media platforms including X, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram until their 16th birthday.

The implementation is expected to be difficult. Many kids are expected to try to bypass the restrictions while parents and older siblings are expected to help them do so.

“This is the day when Australian families are taking back power from these big tech companies and they’re asserting the right of kids to be kids and for parents to have greater peace of mind,” Albanese said. He added that this reform will change lives, allowing kids to have their childhood.
