Google Sues Cybercriminals Over Text Scams

The lawsuit claims that more than 200 scammers have used Lighthouse software to impersonate trusted organizations.

Google is suing a group of cybercriminals who allegedly scam using company branding to target account holders.

The lawsuit claims that more than 200 scammers have used Lighthouse software to impersonate trusted organizations like, E-ZPass and the U.S. Postal Service.

The scammers reportedly send a text message prompting recipients to click a link and share personal information.

The actions exploit the reputations of Google and other brands by illegally displaying their trademarks and services on fraudulent websites.

The tech-giant says that Lighthouse has been used to harm more than 1-million victims across over 120 countries.

Google is seeking a judgment declaring that the phishing activity backed by Lighthouse’s software is illegal.
