Trump Receives South Korea’s Highest Honor

Both sides have said progress has been made, but no agreement has been signed as of yet.

The U.S. and South Korea advanced trade talks Wednesday.

The discussions addressed details of $350 billion that would be invested in the American economy. They followed negotiations and ceremonies that included the presentation of a gold medal and crown to President Trump. It’s the country’s highest honor and is usually reserved for South Korean leaders.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung awarded Trump the honor to recognize his diplomatic efforts with North Korea and was part of a broader strategy to continue advancing trade talks. Both sides have said progress has been made, but no agreement has been signed as of yet. The framework includes gradual investments, cooperation on shipbuilding, and the lowering of tariffs on South Korea’s automobile exports.
