White House’s East Wing To Be Demolished For Ballroom
The East Wing was constructed in 1902 and was last modified in 1942.
Demolition at the White House has begun with a goal to make room for a lavish ballroom.
Initially, President Trump said the ballroom’s construction would not “interfere with the current building,” but it was determined that in order to do it properly, the existing structure has to be adjusted.
The White House has served as the historic home of the U.S. president for two centuries. The East Wing was constructed in 1902 and was last modified in 1942.
Construction of the ballroom is expected to cost around $300 million, which Trump said is being completely funded by donors. Once complete, the ballroom is expected to host up to 900 people.
A White House official said “all the historic components of the East Wing” have been preserved and stored.
